Incentivising Your Team

Many of you have asked how exactly I motivate my team when it comes to hitting KPIs, here is what I would say if I was helping YOU.

I would first ask you how you incentivise your team and how open you are about talking to your team about incentives and money.

I would then ask you how long have you been paying incentives that way and if they ever worked.

I would then ask how you came up with the incentive.

And then finally… If that were YOUR incentive how would you feel about it.

Here's the thing with incentives, they need to be scale-able, maintainable and also PROFITABLE for both of you.

If you don't have incentives that make both you and your team say FUCK YAH when they make them, then I'm going to guess that your numbers and strategy are out of whack.

And LASTLY, once team start hitting these targets then they need to be able to maintain them, because once you get used to that kind of money it can be hard for team to flip flop. So once you put in the structure and it's working…keep it. Sure throw in a fun challenge here and there but you need to have your team's incentives reliable not “eye roll worthy”.

It needs to be enough to empower them to keep on top of their performance but also be consequential enough to know that a shit week in business is just a shit week. This gives team a taste for the risks involved in self employment and also the opportunity to really see how amazing it is to be supported by an employer, whilst having the chance to smash financial goals without taking on such a huge risk.
